Obelisk je tam vždycky.
After five years of growing it is a disappointment to me. Is less hardy than Phyllostachys incarnata and Phyllostachys iridescens Heterochroma growing next to it. This year the maximum frost was -15°C. All the leaves are frozen.

Phyllostachys propinqua 'Shanghai-4' is a giant bamboo that has surprised me in the past decade in size, girth and winter hardiness. This bamboo produces very sturdy, upright stems that remain upright even in a heavy storm. After the extreme frost of February 2012, this was one of the few giant bamboos (along with atrovaginata and parvifolia ) that continued to grow rapidly with thicker culms with minimal frost damage. This is in contrast to many other species. 'Shanghai-4' grows to a height of 8 to 10 m with wrist-thick culms around 10 cm in diameter. The plant differs from Shanghai 3 by its earlier shoot growth (usually 2 to 3 weeks earlier), larger dimensions and greater frost resistance. Older culms often show an orange-brown discoloration of the internoid.
Origin
This bamboo comes from imported plant material via the Shanghai botanical garden. It is difficult to identify the correct species name with certainty. It is quite possible that this is already an early selection, made by Chinese farmers who selected bamboos for quality construction wood, taste of the shoots, straight culms and sufficient frost resistance to give the plant to their children who sometimes went to live in colder areas. I suspect that many 'wild' bamboos have been influenced by human selection for centuries.
News about fresh seeds you can see here
Li HUa Jiang is working for company Yunnan Bamboo
No problem with seeds imported to the Czech rep.
Now they have only old seeds. I think it will be better to wait for fresh seeds. Sometimes they have fresh pubescens seeds.
Very good source from China is https://www.yunnan-bamboo.com/seeds

Normal kurilensis is very vigorous here. Strong spreader. After 18 years is more then 2 m tall and occupy many m2.
Shimofuri is slower spreader.
What can I see is differnce in growing habit. When normal kurilensis grow in first years low, but strongly send rhizomes to the sides. Shimofuri grow higher and higher from the beggining, and go very slowly to the sides.
If i compare morphology both, i am not sure if Shimofuri is clear kurilensis. Looks like hybrid or differend kind in my eyas.
Thank you very much for answear. So I would like to try Anouk and Striped. They looks nice.
My Kiakebono from Jos has smaller leaves then "normal Kurilensis" and sometimes made yellowish leaves, but not every year. Never had stripes. I have it in garden with shorter growing season, so maybe this form needs more wam conditions and longer season.

Shimofuri is very good here. Around 2,5 m tall.

Your Sasa kurilensis Striped is very nice. Is this form stable? Has stipes all the time, or only in the spring? Who is the source?
My Kiakebono from F. Vaupel failed. Never had stripes. The same i have with Kiakebono from Jos. Never had stripes, only sometimes little yellow color on new leaves.

Big bamboos here (continental clima) are from most hardy -Phyllostachys atrovaginata, parvifolia, vivax Shanghai, vivax group, Shanghai 3, iridescens. Hummel Kew and prominens are less hardy. Shanghai 4 is in test, only few years in my garden.
In my garden Phyllostachys vivax Shanghai is a little bit hardier, then Phyllostachys vivax Mcclure.
It is Jiuzhaigou 2. For me it is much more yellow then B1, but maybe B1 is still too young.
You are very close, but it is not B1.
Hello,
I try show pictures in EBS forum, but there is some problem. Normal forums show pictures from different sources, but EBS forum cannot. So only possibility is for me to send links. If it is problem, delete threed please.
